23 Aug: READ AND SIGN PETITION! Over 18's banned from London Bridge Plaza

IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ AND SIGN PETITION! Over 18's banned from London Bridge Plaza

This is really fucking important so read it, sign the petition, and don't let happen. Stand up for your rights!

In an amazingly odd move the management of the new London bridge skatepark
have imposed a rule banning skateboarders over 18 from skating the park.

Sign the petition organised by Seth and Slam at...

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/892230000

Here's a quote from the parks management...

"In the case of Whites Grounds, we are not permitted to allow unaccompanied
adults on the site at any time as young people.
If a young person was to be assaulted or groomed during our supervised
sessions, we would be held accountable."

You also have the chance to write a comment on the petition so please keep
it articulate and sensible. This is a crazy rule that needs overturning so
get signing.

This rule at the London Bridge park is, to coin a phrase, political
correctness gone mad. "...unaccompanied adults"??? That's a bizarre twist on
things!

For a start the park is SUPERVISED, unlike many in the UK, and should serve
as deterrent enough to any improper behaviour.

One of the best things about skateboarding is that it is all inclusive and
trying to keep adults and children apart is unnecessary nannying that has
clearly been thought up by somebody with no real knowledge of skateboarding.

This rule fairly reeks of naive thinking that skateboarding is just
something that kids do. This attitude is something all skateboarders have to
battle against everyday and further highlights the misunderstanding that
many seem to have about the activity.

A grown man with a skateboard is not a potential paedophile and does not
need to "grow up".

The park is also frequented by a large number of sponsored and professional
skateboarders from both the UK and abroad on their visits to London. Most of
these are over 18 and banning them from the park is depriving younger kids
from skateboarding with respected peers that they look up to and can learn a
lot from. London is home to many sponsored and professional skaters. We have
very few public parks of a worthy standard and their presence at these few
decent skateparks is something that helps keep the scene alive.

Can you imagine David Beckham being denied access to playing on a public
football pitch? That's exactly what's happening here if the over 18
exclusion stays in place.

The management behind the London Bridge park need to seriously reconsider
their actions and consult other local councils responsible for public
skateparks in the UK. They'll clearly find that their rules are
unprecedented and completely unnecessary.

Thanks for your support,

Kevin Parrott

16 Aug: Police unveil their latest weapon against crime

Police unveil their latest weapon against crime -

Bobbies on Bicycles Skateboards

Hampshire Police's latest initiative in the fight against crime is to pack beat officers off to join youths at a skate ramp. Police Community Support Officer Stephen Dean is hoping that his skateboarding skills will help him ride it out. The officer is taking part in a police force's latest initiative in the fight against crime.

Uniformed officers attend skateboarding workshops aimed at 12 to 16-year-olds, where they mix with the youngsters and get tuition from expert skaters. Hampshire Police tries to ensure at least one of a team of four constables, three community support officers and one sergeant are there for each session, held twice a week.

PCSO Dean, 22, in particular, is keen to get on board. "It's great for breaking down barriers," he said.
"It lets the youngsters see a more human side to the police. The kids see us down there skateboarding and see us as cool, rather than something they have to fear. All the kids recognise me now in the street and say hello, so I think it's given me more kudos."

Hampshire Police spokeswoman Nicola Collins said the scheme, a joint initiative with Gosport Borough Council, "lets police talk to young people in a positive situation".
She added that officers attend only if there is no more serious police business to deal with.
"If they get called up to go to another incident they will go off and deal with it rather than staying there and having fun skateboarding."
A similar scheme in which police organised other activities for children in the area apparently slashed crime by 28 per cent last year.

Aug 7th: Birdhouse Black 6 Revolution

Birdhouse Skateboards presents Black 6 construction, the latest development in skateboarding technology to provide strength, pop and flick, while retaining the natural feel of seven-ply hard rock Canadian maple. All Black 6 decks come with a limited warranty to guarantee against defects in workmanship. The secret of the Black 6 construction is the namesake sixth black ply of maple that is thicker than a normal ply of deck construction to provide strength and stiffness at a very low increase in weight, add in the super stiff and strong UltraBond proprietary glue and you have a deck that pops and flicks like no other and keeps from going soggy long after other boards are done for. To offset the minimal weight increase of the slightly thickened Black 6 ply, the top rail of the boards are left square instead of rounded to make the board feel a quarter of an inch wider than a normal board of the same shape. Thus, less is more, making for a stronger, stiffer board with better pop and flick. Now available from Kates Skates . Try a Black 6 board today.

3rd August: Some stylish Backpacks

It's great when you can ride your board to the park but what if you live in one of those repressive towns that see skateboarders as more of a threat to society than Bin Laden? Well, here's a couple of stylish bags, one for the board, one for the beers? Seriously, SFR's Dual backpak will comfortably carry either a board or a set of in-lines and has a rather pretty design. Meanwhile the Quiksilver Special Art Olive Bag has some seriously garish artwork which I just couldn't resist sharing. Enjoy!
