20th July: What do you get if you cross a skateboard with a mountainboard?
What do you get if you cross a skateboard with a mountain board? Probably the BE Unlimited.
The Be Unlimited is a totally different direction for all terrain boarding. This is aimed at freestyle and specifically grinding... ANYTHING... the board has a very low centre of gravity and the trucks are on top of the deck. The back foot is also on a kicktail to enable the tail to be used like a skateboard for kicking round and grinding. This board is unbelivable for doing tricks you would in the skatepark out in the woods. The totally smooth underside lets you ride over anything. Pop the front and the board just slides over the rocks and logs. This being a freestyle board you would assume it has no bearing in freeride but this is where it also works great. You grind over everything you meet and with the ability to shave speed and turn tightly using the kicktail it opens up more lines that you wouldn't think possible. This is not a conventional mountainboard and does not do everything as well as a standard style board but it is different and when the rider gets the hang of the board then anything is possible. The board will handle at speed over rough terrain it will ride boarderx etc but in freestyle it grinds EVERYTHING!!!

thin end of the wedge
We've all read about bans on skateboardsing and skaters getting arrested. It's always somewhere in the good ole US of A: not any more! Darlington in County Durham has taken a leaf out of the yanks book and banned skaters!
Council explains skateboard ban saying that there were concerns about damage to the town centre.
Darlington Council passed a by-law in April making skateboarding illegal in its newly-revamped town centre.
A mobile skate park is being erected outside the town hall on Saturday to give youngsters the chance to lawfully practice their skills. The authority hopes that a one-day event will help explain the ban.
Chris McEwan, Darlington Council's cabinet member for children's services, said: "The Council is not against skateboarding but we are keen that young people can enjoy this activity in places where both they, and passers-by, are safe.
"We are very keen to hear from young people about what attracts them to the town centre and then we can work to provide a similar experience in other parts of the borough." Assuming he means to provide a similar experience by banning those attractions as well the author wishes him every failure!
It does worry me though that we're following the US lead by banning a fun healty sport presumably because it isn't regimented and conducted solely in stupidly expensive sports centres where the health and safety nazis can control us!
